This product was designed to help improve the experience of buying a new phone in-store by walking customers through a series of questions, using an intuitive touch-based interface, to help choose the best product for them.

My role

The project was split into 3 teams and I worked in partnership with my team’s Product Owner on everything from ideas, requirements and initial solutions, through the wires and prototype stage to final designs and documentation.

Background

What existed

Despite being a hit with the customers (as an improvement over the traditional process, or lack thereof), the existing design suffered from inconsistent layouts, complicated UI and a rather dated visual style.

Pin Point - as advertised by the highly irritating Keith Lemon.

Since the Pin Point app was a proven success, the company decided to create a white-label version of the app that could be sold to other businesses and be adapted to any brand, and it was at this point that our team started working on the project.

Strategic thinking

Presentation is key(note)

Throughout the project I created presentations to help convey my ideas to the team and ensure everyone understood the thinking behind the solutions before giving their feedback.

This proved especially useful for my technical teammates as they were usually the first to spot any gaps in my thinking.

Styling

Designing the interface

I led the design of the overall UI and creation of the style guide working with both the design and development teams to ensure everyone was happy with the outcome.
